Boss left breathless after Bluebirds win

Slaven Bilic says his Albion side left him breathless at times as they swept aside Cardiff in a 4-2 victory at The Hawthorns.

Albion started on the front foot and were soon ahead when Matheus Pereira linked up with Grady Diagana to fire home from 20 yards.

Diagana was at it again before half time when he picked up Jake Livermore's pass before drilling it home from a similar distance.

Charlie Austin finally got his name on the scoresheet after the break to cap a fine performance - where he was unlucky not to take home the match ball.

After Cardiff's mini-rivival, Romaine Saywers then broke forward to slot home Albion's fourth as they moved back to the top of the Championship.

“There was some really breath-taking football, playing on the front foot, even when they were pressing us. It was our plan that we can come out from that pressing. It was a top performance,” Bilic told the club’s website.

“The only negative was that we could have is that we should have scored more goals, but it was good and I’m happy with it.

“But after 70 minutes we were winning 3-0 and we shouldn’t have needed a fourth goal. We should have finished the game calm.

“We have to stop conceding goals like that, we can’t do it, but we are playing good football and I’m very proud of the guys.

“The team is improving really well but it was a really good opportunity for a clean sheet and you have to grab that. Why don’t we finish the game 4-0 or 5-0?”
