WBA-MAD Player Ratings: Albion 2 Charlton 2

Albion stayed top of the Championship despite conceeding a controversial last-minute penalty against Charlton Athletic.

Matty Phillips and substitue Hal Robson-Kanu gave Albion the lead on separate occasions before the visitor's late penalty.

Here's our ratings on a controversial afternoon at The Hawthorns.

Sam Johnstone: Made a wonderful double save in the first half to keep Albion ahead at half time. Was unfortunatley wrong footed for the first and then couldn't find a penalty save late on. 7

Nathan Ferguson: Struggled in mid-week and saw his marching orders for a tough challenge just under the hour mark. May have to settle for a place on the subs' bench after his ban. 5

Kyle Bartley: Made a wonderful first half block to deny Charlton what seemed a certain equaliser. Was also really unfortunate when his block in the build up to Charlton's first fell straight to Bonne. 7* MOTM

Semi Ajayi: Needed his partner Bartley to bail him out with a wayward first half pass. Was then involved late on when gave away the penalty when he didn't have to challenge. 6

Darnell Furlong: Wasted two good chances to double the lead for Albion and was always a threat down the right. He'll rue the fact he left his scoring boots at home. 6

Romaine Sawyers: Struggled first half to get a grip of the game but moved the ball a lot faster after the break. A lovely bit of skill in the build up to Albion's second. 6

Jake Livermore: Got Albion moving with a wonderful ball to find Pereira in the move that led to the Baggies' opener. His early booking seemed to hinder him though as he struggled to impose himself in the middle. 6

Matt Phillips: Marked his return with a goal and looked threatening at times with the ball at his feet. Put some testing balls into the box and should've had an assist when he found Diagana wide open. 7

Grady Diagana: Struggled to get into the game first half and only really came into the game in the final 20 minutes when he shifted over to Albion's right. Somehow missed from a few yards out when it seemed easier to score. 6

Matheus Pereira: Was man-marked again for much of the game as Charlton looked to subdue Albion's best attacker. Showed his usual silky touches and did fantastic to set up Albion's first. 7

Charlie Austin: Another one of those games for Austin where he works hard enough and shows a couple of neat touches to bring others into the game but he offered Albion nothing in front of goal. Must be looking over his shoulder about replacements that could come in during January.

SUBS

Conor Townsend: Another good cameo appearance from Townsend after he came on to replace the dismissed Ferguson. Will want to cement his place with Ferguson suspended and Gibbs injured. 7

Hal Robson-Kanu: The Welshman is quickly becoming a super-sub for Albion. His wonderful effort looked to have given the Baggies all three points but he'll be so disappointed he couldn't find the net again with the last kick of the game.

Chris Brunt: A welcome return in Baggies colours for Brunty, who came on to add some experience as Albion tried to hang on to the points. 6
