Roberto Di Matteo has finally signed Gabriel Tamas on loan after chasing the Romanian international defender’s signature for a number of months.  The 26-year-old will complete the deal when the January transfer window opens on the Saturday 2nd.

Tamas will join on loan until the end of the season, subject to him being granted a work permit and international clearance, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.  Di Matteo earmarked the former Galatasary, Spartak Moscow and Celta Vigo defender as cover for Abdoulaye Meite during his absence for the African Cup of Nations.

The 6ft.2in defender could make his Albion debut against Nottingham Forest if all relevant paperwork is completed.
