Albion have today rejected a transfer request from midfielder George Thorne.

The 21-year-old has been a transfer target for Championship outfit Derby County after a successful loan spell in the East Midlands.

The Baggies rejected an offer from the Rams believed to be in the region of £1m for Thorne.

Albion insist the midfielder is not for sale and has a future at The Hawthorns after the youngster signed a new and improved three-year contract back in January.

After the bid was rejected, Terry Burton, Technical Director, said “George has progressed through the Academy into the first-team squad and we have high hopes for him.

“He underlined his potential while on loan at Derby and we have no intentions of selling him. We have told Derby he is not for sale and that is the end of the matter as far as we’re concerned.

“The same goes for all of our players. We are not looking to sell anyone. Our only aim is to strengthen our squad this summer – not weaken it.”
