Albion release quartet

Nicky Shorey, Joe Mattock, Somen Tchoyi and Marton Fulop have been released from the club after failing to earn new one-year contract extensions.

However, the club has activated similar clauses on deals for Jerome Thomas, Simon Cox and Marc-Antonie Fortune.

Deals for midfield pair Keith Andrews and Paul Scharner could also be in pipeline as Albion hold their registration until the end of June.

Youngsters Lateef Elford-Alliyu has also been released, but Albion will keep Luke Daniels and Romaine Sawyers for another season.

Sporting and Technical Director Dan Ashworth claimed a lack of opportunities for Shorey and Mattock resulted in Albion’s decision on the left backs.

He also paid tribute to the impact Tchoyi has had during his time with the Baggies – including a hattrick against Newcastle – but added the arrival of Shane Long and the form of Marc-Antonie Fortune had limited his first team chances.
