Steve Clarke is expected to succeed Roy Hodgson as head coach at West Bromwich Albion after the club decided against appointing Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick looked set to take the role yesterday after being overlooked for the vacant position as Belgium boss.

However, the club decided against appointing the experienced German and now look set to confirm Clarke to lead the club into next season.

The Scotsman left Liverpool late yesterday afternoon after a decision was made not to follow through with the offer made to Rangnick.

Clarke has only experienced one game as a top flight boss but has various years coaching experience at Chelsea, West Ham and most recently with the Reds.

Defender Liam Ridgewell welcomed the move to appoint the Scot.

“Just heard Steve Clarke to get the job,” he said on Twitter.

“Sounds like a good one to me. Worked at some great clubs and done well.”

Ridgewell added how he was looking forward to working with Clarke ahead of the squad joining together for pre-season training in early July.
