Albion have missed out on another potential signing after Sam Hutchinson signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.

The Baggies had identified the former Chelsea defender as a possible recruit to fill the void left by the departed Steve Reid and Billy Jones.

But the 24-year-old has now signed at two-year-contract at Hillsborough after his release at the end of the season by Chelsea.

The club are thought to be in the market for a specialist right back, despite the arrivals of Craig Gardner and Chris Baird, with Aston Villa’s Alan Hutton earmarked for a potential switch.

Only last week, Albion missed out on left back Aaron Cresswell after refusing to match West Ham’s offer for the defender.

Meanwhile, the club are believed to have conducted further talks with Monaco forward Emmanuel Riviere over a move to The Hawthorns. It’s believed that Stoke and Newcastle are also interested in the pacy forward.
