Bednar hails massive win

In-form Roman Bednar believes Albion’s 3-2 victory over Blackpool will send out a message to their Championship rivals that the Baggies are back on the hunt for automatic promotion.  The Baggies overtook Nottingham Forest to move back into second place in the Championship sitting only three points behind leaders Newcastle United.

Despite the club’s fifth game in just sixteen days, Albion inflicted only the Tangerine’s third home defeat of the season courtesy of two goals from Czech striker Bednar and a late penalty from Graham Dorrans.

After the Baggies’ disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest five weeks ago, Roberto Di Matteo’s men have bounced back in style recording three draws and consecutive league victories – plus the FA Cup fourth-round 4-2 demolition of Newcastle.

Its last night’s victory at Bloomfield Road, plus Albion’s five-game unbeaten run, which Bednar believes will make their promotion rivals take note of the Baggies’ new found form.

“It was a massive win,” the striker claimed.

“In the last ten minutes, we struggled on with two injured players and the last couple of weeks have been very difficult, so everybody was a little bit tired.

"In the end, we were very pleased with the three points.

"We had a couple of games that didn't go our way, like Forest at home, but after that we feel like we should have taken more points at Newcastle and Ipswich.

"I think last night was more than three points for us.

"We came back and showed how strong we can be.

"It's fantastic that we were able to win back-to-back again.

"It was hard to get back into the top two but there is a long way to go so we just have to keep going and try to win every game.

"We have been in second place a lot this season and maybe we thought it was easy, so now I think it means nothing.

"The three points were great and hopefully we have sent a message to Forest and Newcastle that we are back in business."
