Berahino not a top talent

Albion hotshot Saido Berahino has not been selected amongst Europe’s top young talents in a new report.

The Soccerex 20 Value Index calculated the valuation of the top 20 players under the age of 21 playing within Europe.

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling was ranked as the most valuable young talent with a price tag of £35m placed on the England international. PSG’s Marquinhos was next on the list with a valuation of £27.8m, followed by Manchester United’s new signing Mephis Depay at £23.8m.

Only one other English youngster made the top ten of the Index with United’s Luke Shaw ranked as the ninth most valuable player under the age of 21. However, his valuation of £18m is dwarfed by the reported £28m transfer from Southampton last summer.

Everton’s John Stones and Arsenal's Calum Chambers are also selected within the top 20. Surprisingly, Harry Kane also misses out on selection.

The index analyses players on a host of criteria including their age, position, club, number of international caps, minutes played, goals and technical quality.

Berahino fired 20 goals in all domestic appearances last season and also topped the goal charts during the recent Under-21 European Championship qualifying campaign. He was also an unused substitite for England against Scotland and Slovenia after gaining his first senior call up in November last year.
