Berahino set to sign new deal

Striker Saido Berahino is set to give Albion a pre-season boost by signing a new contract before the start of the season – only days after he sacked controversial agent Aidy Ward.

The club had ended discussions over a deal earlier this year after Berahino had given an unauthorised interview where he outlined plans to move away from The Hawthorns.

However, since the arrival of Tony Pulis at The Hawthorns, the England Under-21 international has said on record how happy he is at the Baggies and is now set to receive a new and improved deal.

In Berahino’s first full season the 21-year-old scored 20 goals in all appearances and earned his first call-up to the England senior side.

The youngster has two years remaining on a contract work around £14,000 a week. However, that deal is expected to double in value as Albion look to secure the services of their most prized asset.

Although Berahino has cut ties with Ward, he still remains under the management of the Impact agency.

Ward, who is at the centre of the Raheem Sterling saga, said in a recent newspaper that he was no longer advising Berahino.

“I’m no longer working with Saido. You’ll have to ask him for the reasons,” he said.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis has previously claimed that Berahino was being mismanaged when he put the striker on the ‘naughty chair’ for his outburst.
