Boss considers formation change

Roy Hodgson is considering switching to a traditional two-man attack this weekend when Albion travel to Everton.

The Baggies have adopted an attacking 4-3-3 formation since the switch from 4-4-2 helped them win consecutive games against Wolves, Sunderland and Chelsea.

But, after conceding three first half goals against Newcastle, Hodgson reverted back to a traditional two-man attack after the break with Shane Long partnering Peter Odemwingie.

Although Albion lost the game, the switch saw Albion look far more threatening in the final third with Keith Downing admitting the same formation is being considered by the Baggies boss.

“We have always played a straight back-four and then we have either played a five-man midfield or a three-man midfield and a front two,” said the Albion No.2

"We will take stock and have a look today.

"We have good footage and reports on Everton so we will have to see how we go about it.

"But the circumstances on Sunday meant we had such a mountain to climb an extra front player down the middle was required.

"Peter and Shane have played there before this season and we felt Shane could give us a spark, which initially he did.

"We just couldn't get another goal in the next 15 or 20 minutes, which is what we needed.

"It was too much of a mountain to climb after the first-half performance."
