Tony Mowbray paid tribute to his side after seeing the Baggies claim their first 2008/09 Premiership victory, and move off the bottom of the table in the process. Albion started in the best possible fashion with James Morrison heading a delightful Borja Valero cross in the third minute.

Chances again were wasted with Robert Koren the culprit of missing a glorious opportunity after fine work by Roman Bednar and Jonathan Greening before Mark Noble and Lucas Neill put the visitors ahead in the 29th and 36th minute respectively. However the Iron's lead was to last only a matter of minutes before Robert Green pulled down Leon Barnett in the penalty area before Roman Bednar scored his second spot-kick of the season.

A delightful counter-attack, starting from a smart clearance by debutant Jonas Olsson, was converted in the 83rd minute by Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt to send The Hawthorns into raptures and secure the Baggies' first maximum of the season.

"I'm pleased the team scored some goals," said Mowbray.

"Every week I have to listen to experts telling us we're going to struggle to score.

"But I had no fears we could get goals and we might have been sitting here having scored more in our other games.

"We do have the players who can score and get in the areas to score goals."

He added: "I'm just pleased some of our chances went in today.

"However well we've played in the first three or four games, if you don't win it's a pretty brutal industry.

"No-one is interested in how you move the ball around and how many chances you make.

"If you don't score you don't win and you're a poor team.

"That's what we felt and I'm delighted we got the three points and scored three goals.

"It was important to get that win to give us an opportunity to get among the pack by winning next week and the week after."
