Tony Pulis admitted it was a case of what have been at The Hawthorns after Albion were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Man City.

Two goals from Leroy Sane were enough to put City into the next round, despite a rare Claudio Yacob goal.

But it could've been much different for Albion had they been more clinical in front of goal.

Hal Robson Kanu hit the post in the last minute after he had scruffed an earlier chance wide. James Morrison and Salomon Rondon also missed chances to find the back of the net.

"I thought it was a really good cup tie," said Pulis.

"They scored a goal after a couple of minutes and it set us back, but the big difference in the second half was that we really wanted to get after them and press them all over the pitch and I think we did that.

“The big disappointment in the first half was that we kept giving the ball away. We worked really hard to get it and then we'd just give it straight back.

"At half time we had a really good chat about it. We had to keep the ball better and we did that in the second half.

"We gave them a game in the second half, a really good game - and I’m disappointed that I’m stood here not having won the game, never mind drawn it."
