Boss shares frustrations after Everton defeat

Alan Irvine revealed his frustrations after again watching his side concede sloppy goals from defensive errors to slip to a consecutive defeat.

Fans’ favourite Romelu Lukaku fired home after Jonas Olsson’s weak clearance in the second minute to give Everton an early lead.

It got worse for Albion after the break when Ben Foster let Kevin Mirallas weak shot through his grasp to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage Irvine’s side were unable to overturn.

The Baggies managed just one show on target against Everton in Irvine’s second home game in charge as Albion had plenty of possession but little cutting edge.

Albion have earned just two points under Irvine’s leadership and find themselves in the bottom two.

Irvine said both Jonas Olsson and Ben Foster were devastated their errors led to another defeat. The head coach backed both to recover from their errors, but admitted his side must cut out defensive lapses if Albion are to return to winning ways.

“I understand it. We’re all frustrated,” he said.

“We all came here hoping we would put on a really good performance and get a really good result.

“I can understand the fans are frustrated and disappointed because that’s how I feel and it’s how the players feel as well.

“We know that for a fair part of the game we were playing well and individual errors have cost them dear.

“We know how important it is to win Premier games and we will only do so without making those kind of mistakes.”
