Carson aiming to build on Hammers win

Albion No.1 Scott Carson has told his team-mates to use Saturday's 3-2 victory over West Ham as a springboard for the rest of the season. Despite putting in impressive performances against Arsenal, Everton and Bolton the Baggies laid bottom of the league with a solitary point before yesterday's clash. Now Tony Mowbray's men sit only a position behind Manchester United with four points after Carson's heroics in the final minutes of yesterday's victory.

"I thought there was a foul on Jonas Olsson when the cross came in but the ball fell to Scott Parker," the England international said.

"I managed to close the angle and fortunately it hit my outstretched hand.

"It was nice to keep it out because I felt we deserved the three points.

"I'm there to stop the ball going in the net and I was just doing my job.

"We're delighted to get three points.

"Hopefully, this is the start of many points to come."

"It was an up and down game," Carson admitted.

"After we scored the first goal we went a bit tense but that's credit to West Ham.

"We switched off a couple of times and tried to play football in the wrong areas.

"But there's a lot of new faces here and we're gradually gelling together.

"We all dug in, didn't let our heads drop when we were 2-1 down and hopefully it's the start of good things to come.

"Once we got back on terms I felt we handled the game much better in the second half and I was delighted to see Brunty's shot find the bottom corner for the winner.

"It was really important to get our first win because the later you leave it, the more you're chasing.

"It's nice looking at the Premier League table and seeing you don't need two or three wins to get back into things.

"Hopefully we can build on this."
