Cox plays waiting game

Simon Cox insists he’s happy to bide his time on the fringes of Albion’s first team.

The arrival, and form, of Shane Long has pushed Cox down the pecking order at The Hawthorns.

The former Swindon striker has played only two minutes of Premier League football this season – although he did start and score against Bournemouth in the Carling Cup.

Despite his lack of first team football, Cox insists he’s in no hurry to exit the Baggies in search for game time.

“The reason I’m not playing at club level is because we’ve got so many good players at the club,” said the Republic of Ireland international.

“It just isn’t my time at the moment. That will come. I’m a patient sort of person, it just depends how long I can be patient for before it makes me decide if it’s best for me to stay or leave.

“That’s a long time down the road yet and I’m happy to fight for my place. With Shane (Long) having come in and done so well so far, it’s been good for us.”

Cox may get his opportunity this Sunday against Norwich (KO 1.30pm) after worries over the fitness of Shane Long (calf) and Peter Odemwingie (ankle).
