England under-21 defender Craig Dawson has joined Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers on loan to gain some much needed first team experience.

The former Rochdale man has joined the Trotters on a 93-day deal after failing to break into Steve Clarke’s first team plans this season.

Dawson, who also played for Team GB in the Olympics, has a 28-day recall option, should the Baggies require his services.

“We firmly believe that Craig has a bright future and this loan spell will hopefully enable him to play some games and continue his footballing education,” said Albion’s Sporting & Technical Director (Designate) Richard Garlick.

“We’ve had an awful lot of interest in Craig but we’ve been reluctant to allow to him to go out on loan due to our injury situation.

“Now that we’re getting a few players back, we think this is a good time to let him go out, especially as we only play three games before we’re able to recall him, if we need to.”
