Di Matteo delighted with dominant performance

Roberto Di Matteo was full of praise for his side after Albion extended their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Youssouf Mulumbu’s first goal in Albion colours followed by Robert Koren’s opener for the season were enough to see off Town – who had goalkeeper Richard Wright to thank in keeping the scoreline down.

The Baggies were ahead after only ten minutes when midfielder Mulumbu smashed home a left foot volley after the visitors failed to clear a corner.  The advantage was doubled seven minutes before half-time after a neat one-two between Chris Wood and Robert Koren saw the former round Richard Wright and slot home.

It could, and should, have been three on 75 minutes when Luke Moore failed to score from the penalty spot after Shaun Cummings was brought down.  However the miss failed to dampen Di Matteo’s spirits with the Italian happy to complete his first win at The Hawthorns.

“It was three points, a clean sheet and a great performance," Di Matteo beamed.

"It was a good evening for us - we were excellent from start to finish.

"We really played well and were always in control.

"We always looked dangerous going forward, created lots of chances and always looked like we could score.

"But another visiting keeper had an outstanding game.

"Richard Wright is a very good goalkeeper and had a very good evening.

"But we were convincing throughout and it was great to keep another clean sheet.

"I expected 12 points from the first four games, so we're two points behind in that respect!

"Seriously though, I'm pleased with our start to the season.

"We now want to build on it."
