Di Matteo gets his wish

Roberto Di Matteo announced his delight at seeing Albion return to winning ways – and back to the top of the Championship.  After gifting Reading the opening goal when Matt Mills was allowed the freedom of Albion’s box after just six minutes to head home a Brian Howard free-kick the Baggies put on a three-star show to the delight of Di Matteo.

After consecutive defeats against Crystal Palace and Barnsley, plus a respectable draw before the international break, the former MK Dons chief was pleased to see Albion return to winning ways.  However, despite the three points, Di Matteo insists his side must stop giving teams a goal head-start at The Hawthorns.

"I asked the team for a good performance and 100 per cent commitment," Di Matteo revealed.

"In the long run, if you play well and perform you'll get results.

"Luckily for us we managed to win.

"I think after we conceded there was a bit of nervousness.

"It's not ideal to concede so early knowing the opposition will sit so deep.

"Also, I don't know what it is with The Hawthorns, but the opposition goalkeepers that come here seem to have the days of their lives.

"Adam Federici made about four unbelievable saves during the second half.

"But, after our slow start, we played 75 minutes of great football and got what we deserved."
