Roberto Di Matteo admitted how proud he was after watching his side come for a goal behind to snatch a late win – and move back in to the automatic promotion places in the process.

A Roman Bednar brace and a late Graham Dorrans penalty was enough for Albion to see off the Tangerines after Keith Southern’s opener and Stephen Dobbie had pegged back the Baggies with only ten minutes remaining.

Blackpool had only twice on home soil before the game however suffered their third defeat of the campaign after Ishmael Miller had been brought down in the area with only seven minutes remaining.  Scotland midfielder Dorrans then stepped up to notch his 12th goal of the season after Bednar had scored his fifth goal in six games.

"It was a very exciting game and there was never a dull moment," the former MK Dons chief said.

"I'm pleased with the way we got the win.

"It was very difficult tonight.

"The pitch wasn't in the best condition because of the weather.

"We tried to play as much as we could and pass the ball.

"Towards the latter stages of the game, the pitch got a bit worse and it became more difficult.

"We knew Blackpool are a good team.

"At home, they are very good. They make life very difficult for you and put you under a lot of pressure.

"They put us under pressure at the end and, with Ishmael injured and all three subs already used, we had to dig in to keep the lead.

"I'm proud of my players tonight. They showed a lot of character throughout the game."

Despite counterpart Ian Holloway having serious doubts about the late penalty decision, Di Matteo claims the foul, which left Ishmael Miller with an ankle injury, was a clear-cut spot kick.

"From where I was standing, it looked like a clear penalty,” he added.

"Ishmael was past the defender and was brought down."
