After witnessing defeat in his first game as Albion’s Head Coach, Roberto Di Matteo has revealed there’s a lot of work ahead for his players during their mini-break to Slovenia

The new Baggies chief effectively only had a week with his new players before the trip to The Glass Works Stadium with a number of players having only a few day’s training before the pre-season opener.

While focusing on fitness instead of results at this stage of the season, Di Matteo admitted he and his backroom staff will be working on a number of issues from the disappointing defeat to the Blue Square League outfit.

“It was a good run-out,” the former MK Dons boss said.

"We had a lot of young pros involved and some of the international lads were only back late last week and had only had one or two training sessions.

"There were a lot of tired legs out there because they've been doing double training sessions.

“But it was a good opportunity to get everyone out on the pitch.”

Di Matteo Continued. “We have a lot of work to do in respect of how we want to play, the way we want to do things and the way we want to defend.”

"We will still be working hard this week in Ptuj but we'll also start working tactically as we've been focusing more on the physical side of things over the past ten days.

"Some players have only just reported back to the club and are only just starting to do their work."
