Dorrans set for summer training

Albion No.2 Michael Appleton expects Graham Dorrans to complete his recovery from the ankle injury which has sidelined him for more than two months over the summer.

The Scotland star injured his ankle in training on the eve of Albion’s successful trip to Birmingham City at the beginning of March.

He has been unable to train since, but Appleton expects to see ‘Dozza’ return to the training pitch in the coming days and work on his fitness during his summer break.

"As far as I'm aware, it's still a possibility for Dozza to come in towards the end of the week and do a bit of the light stuff," said Appleton.

"That would be a bonus for us and a bonus for Dozza leading into the summer.

"I'm sure he'll be working hard over the summer – probably a little bit harder than the other boys to ensure he's right for the opening day of pre-season.

"It'll be good for him to get in a couple of days this week before he breaks up.

"That's the idea behind it, really.

"I would imagine he is desperate to get back involved.

"Knowing Dozza, he will have wanted to have done it sooner but, ultimately, I think it's the right decision that we just give him a couple of days this week.

"He'll then go away and be chomping at the bit at the start of next season."
