Gamboa deal hit by work permit delay

Albion are being forced to wait to unveil the signing of Costa Rican international Cristian Gamboa after his application for a work permit was rejected.

The Baggies have now lodged an appeal with the FA after agreeing a deal with Gamboa’s former club Rosenborg BK and agreeing terms with the defender.

Club officials do not expect any difficulties during the appeal – especially after West Ham won a similar appeal for their Ecuador striker Enner Valencia.

If expected and Gamboa is granted a work permit, the deal is likely to be in the region of around £2m for the pacy defender.

Andre Wisdom, Chris Baird and Craig Gardner are all new recruits who can play on the right side of defence, should Gamboa's application fail.
