Irvine celebrates first win

Alan Irvine dedicated his first victory in charge of Albion to the club’s fans after watching his side beat Spurs at White Hart Lane for the first time in 29 years.

James Morrison’s header in the second half saw the Baggies deservedly take all three points in Irvine's fifth league game in charge

The Baggies had the better of opportunities against Spurs with Saido Berahino having a goal disallowed, Joleon Lescott having a goalbound volley blocked on the line and Craig Dawson having a clear penalty waved away after a handball from Emmanuel Adebayor.

“I think we were good value for the win,” said a relived Irvine.

“We knew we had to work hard, to keep our structure and our organisation which we did.

"But we knew we could not be passive against a team of this quality because they will eventually pick you off.

"I thought we produced football of quality when we had the opportunity.

“I am being asked if I am relieved and I suppose there is an element of that.

"But the over-riding emotion is one of pleasure – for the club and everyone in it, for the players and of course for the fans.”
