Irvine: Defeat was harsh

Alan Irvine reflected on Albion’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool believing the Baggies deserved more.

Saido Berahino continued his hot run of form when he equalised from the spot after Adam Lallana’s goal on the stroke of half time.

But just five minutes after Albion had pegged Liverpool back, Jordan Henderson gave the Reds the lead again.

Albion searched for another equaliser and Berahino went close with a header. However, despite late pressure by Irvine’s men, the Reds held on to the victory.

“I am very disappointed to be leaving without a reward," said Albion’s head coach.

"I was disappointed with the way we were on the ball in the first half.

"That was my message to the players at half-time.

"I wanted them to show more belief and I felt we did that in the second half.

"We pegged Liverpool back and we finished the game defending against Liverpool on the counter-attack.

"Not many teams come to Anfield and can force them to do that."
