Irvine: I will not quit

Alan Irvine insists he has no intention of quitting as head coach of Albion after the Baggies fourth straight league defeat after last night’s 2-1 reverse against in-form West Ham.

Albion took the lead in the 10th minute when Craig Dawson glanced in Graham Dorrans’ free-kick.

Yet Albion’s lead didn’t last long with Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins both scoring for the visitors before the half time whistle.

The Baggies tried to find an equaliser after the break but could not find a way past a well drilled West Ham defence.

“I spent three years out of senior football and I certainly don’t question why I put myself through it,” said Irvine.

“I know what the situation is. It comes with the territory and you just have to keep on doing the things you think will work and hopefully things will turn around.”

Irvine was amazed Albion find an equaliser in a second period when the Baggies enjoyed large spells of possession.

He added: “I don’t know if I have ever been involved in a more one sided half when you don’t get something out of it.

“It was astonishing really. We had so much of the play. We spent the whole of the half in their half, if not in their final third.

“We had countless attempts at goal but we didn’t score unfortunately and that’s disappointing.

“In some cases our finishing could have been a little bit better. In other cases they defended well or we were a little bit unfortunate and the goalkeeper did well.”
