Irvine: We stopped the rot

Alan Irvine admitted his frustration after the Baggies’ 0-0 stalemate with Hull City.

The Baggies missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Graham Dorrans saw his spot kick saved by Tigers’ stopper Allan McGregor.

In a game of few chances, Craig Gardner saw a free kicked tipped around the post by McGregor before the Scot was again tested by substitute Silvestre Varela.

Baggies head coach Alan Irvine admitted he was relieved to end Albion’s four-game losing streak, but rued Dorrans’ missed penalty.

"I'm frustrated because if the penalty goes in - and we expect to score from penalties - then it would have been an even harder struggle for Hull to get something from the game.

"But it's one point than we didn't have before kick-off and nobody could possibly question the players' commitment.

"They gave it everything in a very difficult game and showed everyone is pulling together."
