January Transfer News

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray will reportedly kick off a January spending spree with a £1.5million bid for Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.Mowbray is looking to shake up his Albion squad after spending the last six weeks assessing the playing staff at his disposal. The former Hibs boss has the most expensive squad in the Championship - but has identified the goalkeeping department as the one he needs to strengthen as a priority. Russell Hoult is currently number one at The Hawthorns, with Luke Steele as his back-up, but he has failed to impress Mowbray since he took over from Bryan Robson - and the new boss wants Myhill between the sticks. The 24-year-old is one of Hull's prize assets, but with the Tigers languishing in 23rd place and Albion aiming to return to the Premiership, he would no doubt jump at the chance of a move to the Black Country. The transfer fee would also free up some cash for Phil Parkinson's successor, widely expected to be Iain Dowie, to spend in January. Mowbray has promised names and past achievements count for nothing under his stewardship at Albion, and he is expected to offload a number of players in January, with Chris Perry, Steve Watson, Zoltan Gera and Nathan Ellington all tipped to leave The Hawthorns in the New Year.
