Albion’s transfer policy has today come under more scrutiny after the club pulled out of the transfer for Gonzalo Jara.  After arranging a deal with the 23-year-old’s club, Cola Cola, and the defender flying to England for a medical, Roberto Di Matteo decided to switch his attention to potential transfers for other areas of his squad.

A deal in the region of £1.4 million, plus add-ons and a sell on clause, had been arranged by Albion officials, believed to be Sporting and Technical director, Dan Ashworth, however new head coach Di Matteo believes Albion are already strong in the defensive department, despite Jara being able to play anywhere along the back line.

Cola Cola announced on their official website that Albion had ‘money problems’, and as a result, the deal was shelved.  Speculation is now mounting Albion has reserved the money to attempt to buy Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.
