Jason Koumas has announced his retirement from professional football.

The 35-year-old had been playing at his old club Tranmere Rovers after signing a deal with the Prenton Park club in 2013.

Koumas joined Albion in a deal worth £2.5m from Rovers in 2002 and went on to make 123 appearances for the Baggies during a five-year spell at The Hawthorns.

"I'm happy with the career I've had. I've played for some good clubs, met some great people and have plenty of memories,” said the former Wales international.

"I wish I could have gone out on a high but it wasn't to be. Despite the results, I really enjoyed my last two seasons back at Tranmere and am glad I made the decision to return to the club."

The tricky midfielder, who scored 23 goals for Albion, left the club in 2007 when he signed for Wigan Athletic in deal with £5.3 million.
