After conceding five goals at The Hawthorns only seven days ago Scunthorpe United have bolstered their defence with the loan signing of Shelton Martis. Signed for a bargain £50,000 from Hibs in the summer the 25-year-old central defender has only made two senior starts since his move south of the border.

However the Dutch defender remains firmly in the thoughts of manager Tony Mowbray with the move orchestrated for Martis to gain first-team experience.

"Opportunities have been hard to come by for Shelton here so far but I particularly like his qualities," Mowbray said.

"We need to see him play Championship football. Hopefully he'll get that at Scunthorpe and will come back really competing hard for a place in the first team."
