Leading 3-0 the Baggies allowed the Hornets back into the game by conceding a 77th minute goal which upset Megson.

"Today was a potential banana skin for us but we put a solid team out there and I knew what I was going to get in terms of work-rate and organisation," the Baggies boss said after the game.

"I think 3-0 would have been the ideal result but as it was, the game finished 3-1 and I was disappointed with the goal we conceded.

"It was a great goal from their point of view but from our point of view it was sloppy and it was a goal we shouldn't have allowed them.

"There were things in the game we were pleased with, certainly, but there were also aspects we were not too pleased with and one of those was the goal which was sloppy from our point of view.

"At 3-0 the place was rocking but we allowed them to score a goal and that changed the atmosphere in the ground and we became a little bit tentative.

"It was a tight game played by two teams who were well organised.

"But although there were very few real chances in the match, it was us who created most of them."
