Mel: 'Bad' Foy decision cost us

Pepe Mel again bemoaned another terrible referee’s decision after Albion lost 2-0 at Hull City.

The hosts were awarded a first half penalty when former Albion player Shane Long fell dramatically in the area after running into Craig Dawson.

To Albion’s dismay, referee Chris Foy fell for Long’s dive and pointed to the spot. Although Ben Foster saved Nikica Jelavic’s spot kick, Liam Rosenior headed in the rebound.

Long then made matters worse when he doubled Hull’s advantage in the 38th minute after Albion had failed to clear a long ball.

Mel said the decision to award Hull’s penalty was a poor by the official and pointed towards a similar incident involving James Morrison when Foy waved away Albion’s appeals.

“I think their penalty was a bad decision by the referee,” the Spaniard said after the game.

“In the second-half we had the same situation when Morrison was fouled and the referee does not whistle - that was a penalty.

“But we continue because every week in the Premier League the table changes.”

Mel added: “In my head I always think to win.

“Today it was not possible but Fulham, Cardiff and Sunderland all lost.

“The next game is a big one for us.

“There are currently four teams beneath us so of course I think we can still stay up.”
