Mel: It's been tough

Pepe Mel was pleased to keep Albion in the Premier League but admitted a difficult time at The Hawthorns.

The popular Spaniard arrived in early January, following the departure of Steve Clarke.

Mel managed to win 15 points since his arrival – but was disappointed to finish the season with a defeat, following the 2-1 defeat to Staffordshire rivals Stoke City.

The Baggies fell behind in the first half when Gareth McAuley scored an unfortunate own goal. Stephane Sessegnon scored a second half equaliser before Charlie Adam scored late on.

“It’s a great disappointment to finish the season with three defeats,” said Mel.

“The result today was disappointing for the fans and the club.

“I arrived here on January 12 and there have been different problems.

“But altogether with the fans, players, technical staff, all the people working at West Brom, hard work every day has kept us in the Premier League.”
