Mel not concerned at pressure

Pepe Mel insists speculation about his job will not get in the way of him helping to keep Albion in the league.

Spaniard Mel’s winless run as Albion boss continued after Manchester United’s convincing 3-0 victory at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies were unlucky to find themselves 1-0 behind at half time after Liam Ridgewell allowed Phil Jones a free header in the 34th minute.

But after United had scored their second through a Wayne Rooney header, the Baggies were well beaten by the time Danny Welbeck added a third.

The defeat saw Albion slip closer to the relegation zone and remain out of the bottom three courtesy of a superior goal difference to Cardiff.

Albion play relegation rivals Swansea City, Hull City, Cardiff City and Norwich City in their next four games – fixtures, Mel says, are critical to Albion’s chances of survival.

“Pressure is all part of the profession,” said Mel.

“I hope the players respond well to playing under pressure

“The trainer certainly does react well to being under pressure because I’m used to it.

“I’m still confident I can keep West Brom up; the next four matches are very important for us.

“They are different matches and we need 11 professionals with a good mentality.”
