Mel refuses to panic after Fulham point

Pepe Mel insists Albion can still pull themselves out of the relegation dog-fight after yesterday’s 1-1 with bottom side Fulham.

Albion had to rely on goal-line technology to draw level after Matej Vydra’s shot crept over the line in the 86th minute.

The hosts were behind for most of the game after Ashkan Dejagah’s 28th-minute opener.

The Baggies were again below-par in the first half and could’ve been further behind after the visitors wasted early chances.

But after Mel’s tactical reshuffle after the break, Albion came into the game more and found a late equaliser to extend the Baggies unbeaten home record to six league games.

“Before the match in my head only three points is possible,” Mel said.

“We should have more points.

“But in the first half my team is too open and it is a problem.

“At half-time I spoke with the players and changed the system from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3.

“This was better for us.

“But I’m pleased with the players.

“One point is one point.

“It’s an important point and an important point because for 86 minutes it was 1-0.

“I think West Brom had a lot of chances to win this match.

“And the best player was Fulham’s goalkeeper.”
