Gareth Barry reserved special praise to the Albion fans who made the trip up to Sheffield United on a wet, December Friday night.

Albion's visit to the Blades was brought forward 24 hours to be shown live on Sky TV.

But that didn't stop more than 1,000 travelling throstles from witnessing Albion's impressive comeback at Brammel Lane.

“You need away fans driving you on,” Barry said after scoring his first goal of the season.

“Christmas is coming, it’s a freezing cold Friday night, and it’s on the TV, so all the players in that dressing room are giving you a big thank-you.

The former England international added: “The first half an hour they caused us real problems, so to react in the second half to control the way we did was one of our best away performances for a long time.

“To learn from the first half, adapt, and control the second is probably the thing that’s going to really please the manager.

“It’s always nice to score, it was at a critical time in the game, as we were up against it. We had real control in the second half, that’s what’s delighting us so much.

“We can watch the video back, take a lot from it, and look forward to a busy Christmas period.”
