Midfielder out to revive partnership

Youssouf Mulumbu wants to revive his midfielder partnership with Graham Dorrans in the remaining four games of this season.

The two played an integral part in Albion’s engine room under Roberto Di Matteo’s stewardship and helped lead Albion back to an immediate return to the Premier League.

But the two were unable to build on their understanding due to a change in formation and largely down to injuries to Dorrans.

The Scotsman made a rare start in central midfield against Queens Park Rangers last weekend and caught the eye with a skilful performance capped by an unstoppable 30-yard goal.

Mulumbu hopes Dorrans is now given an extended stay in Albion’s engine room after his display against Rangers.

“I used to play a lot with him in the Championship and we had a good partnership,”  he said..

“He’s a very good, skilful footballer and it was easy for me to play next to him on Saturday.

‘‘We have a good understanding and he makes it easy for me to find a pass.

“I think it was really good for him to score against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

“He hasn’t played a lot of games this year and it was important for his confidence that he scored. I hope now he will play more games.

“And I hope now we can finish in the top half of the table as we no longer have to look over our shoulders.”
