Ishmael Miller successfully completed 45 minutes against Port Vale reserves in a behind closed doors friendly at The Hawthorns.  Roberto Di Matteo was present in the crowd to watch the powerhouse make his return after being sidelined for more than 13 months.  The Baggies won the game 4-1 following goals from Robert Koren, Chris Wood and a Sam Manton brace.

“The friendly was part of Ish's rehab,” Di Matteo revealed after the game.

"We wanted to get him on the pitch and taking part in a reserves game.

"He will need to play games, that's for sure.

"That's how you get your game rhythm and build up your fitness.

"I think he's done well.

"We were looking for him to get back in February but he looks quite good considering the injury he had.

"We'll just have to monitor him."

Fellow striker Reuben Reid has joined Championship rivals Peterborough United on loan until April 7thFollowing his summer switch from Rotherham United the winger has found appearances difficult to come starting just twice in the Carling Cup.

"Peterborough have been chasing Reuben for a while now," Di Matteo continued.

"I recommended to Reuben that he go because he will hopefully play week in, week out.

"It's always better to play than being on the bench, playing ten minutes here and there or in the reserves.

"It's very important for him to get football at this level.

"We'll see how he gets on."
