Ishmael Miller has been given an injury boost as he battles back from a serious knee injury by signing an improved five-year contract.  The 22-year-old has been a massive hit since joining initially on loan two seasons ago from Manchester City scoring 16 times in his first season and earning a £900,000 permanent switch.

The pacy striker was just coming to grips with life in the Premier League before injuring his knee during a collision with England ‘keeper David James back in December.  Miller was set to return to training at the start of June, however ‘Ish’ needed further surgery after the initial operation failed to cure the problem.  The former Under-21 international is now expected back after Christmas.

“This is a massive boost for the club," Di Matteo insisted.

"Ishmael has got all the attributes required to be a top striker.

"He's still going to be out for a while but we're looking forward to having him back as soon as possible.

"He will be a big help to us when he does return.

"Obviously, Ishmael hasn't played for a while so it's also good to see the club supporting him in this way.

"This new contract shows everyone at the club has a lot of faith in him."
