Miller welcomes future competition

Ishmael Miller has revealed he'd welcome any added strike-force to Albion's squad with the January transfer window just around the corner. With Craig Beattie on loan at Crystal Palace, the Baggies have been functioning with only three first-team forwards this season with the England Under-21 international welcoming any future signings which could jeopardise his place in Tony Mowbray's starting XI.

The 21-year-old, who has scored two goals in the last four games, believes the introduction of any new faces will galvanise the Baggies squad and help improve his own game at the same time.

"You look at any team or squad in the Premier League and they are all looking to strengthen," Miller acknowledged.

"If there is someone who can make us better and stronger then we should be looking to bring him in.

"The more players we have the more competition it will provide and that will be better for all of us.

"It will give us a better chance of staying up.

"Obviously you want to play and be in the manager's thoughts, which I feel I am and I know I need to play as well as I can so I'm there.

He added: "To get another striker would be great.

"It would add competition and help make me a better player because I've still got learning to do.

"Yes, obviously, you need to score goals to stay in the team but it's also about creating and giving your all."

Despite scoring more than 200 goals in the past two seasons, Albion are currently the divisions lowest scorers hitting the net only ten times in 13 games - a stat Miller is keen to resolve starting at Stoke on Saturday (KO 3pm).

"People have said we've not been scoring enough goals but to be fair it's difficult," the former Manchester City power-house added.

"We could have scored a few more.

"I could have scored more and Roman could have scored more but I feel every team misses chances.

"All of the teams around us aren't scoring many.

"If you get a chance you need to try and make it count.

"One-nilers are winning games and are crucial."
