Mixed pre-season for Albion

Albion boss Alan Irvine insists time is running out to bring in forwards after watching the Baggies suffer a third straight pre-season defeat.

After four consecutive victories, the Baggies suffered defeats to Nottingham Forest, Port Vale and FC Porto.

Despite making several signings during the off season, Albion are still short of wide options and Irvine wants another striker to join the club before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

“We will continue to look for players,” said the Scot. “Whether they will be players that are available to us this week I don’t know, but we will continue to look.

“My main job is trying to work with the players that we have here on the training ground.

“It takes so long to complete deals these days that I’ll be very surprised if there’s anybody else in by this weekend.

“People at the club are working away extremely hard behind the scenes and it would be nice if we did have some other options before Saturday but I’m hopeful more than confident.”
