Mowbray content with squad

Tony Mowbray has insisted he's 'more than happy' with his Albion squad despite missing out on two targets before the transfer window closed. It was widely expected Albion would bring in another forward before Monday night's deadline however no transfer materialised. Now the Baggies boss is refusing to panic claiming his squad has enough firepower to succeed in the Barclays Premiership.

"We continued all night long trying to get something done - but it didn't happen," Mowbray conceded.

"But I still went to bed content enough.

"We'd have liked to create more competition.

"In my mind, I'd have liked one more certain type of midfielder and another striker.

"Then I'd have been totally happy with the squad we've got.

"But it wasn't through a lack of perseverance things didn't happen.

"Things got pretty close but didn't happen and I'm more than happy with what we've got.

"I'm not a follower of these pundits that suggest we're not going to score enough goals.

"I don't see the evidence for that - but time will tell.

"If we're sitting here in 15 games and haven't scored many goals, they may be right.

"Also, if we were sitting here after three games and hadn't created many chances, I'd be worried.

"But I think we've created enough chances to win matches and score goals."

The Baggies reportedly had a bid of £1.85 million turned down for Cercle Brugge's striker Tom De Sutter with a number of forwards linked on loan deals. However Mowbray will now have to rely on the services of Ishmael Miller, Roman Bednar, Luke Moore and Craig Beattie after refusing to pay over the odds for targets.

"You've got to weigh up the market and see what it's going to cost you for someone who is probably not going to get into your team or make an impact and would just be another body coming in," he added.

"I'm comfortable with what we've got.

"I don't go along with the scaremongering that we need another striker.

"I think the team will be fine.

"Let's wait and see."
