Mowbray delighted with comeback

Tony Mowbray praised the character of his side as the Baggies had to come from behind twice to earn a valuable point at The KC Stadium.

Jay Simpson's first in the Premier League and a Chris Brunt spot-kick in the 73rd minute was enough to earn a share of the points after the Baggies had started sluggishly.

Hull winger Bernard Mendy deservedly put the hosts in front just a minute before the half-time whistle with Mowbray admitted it was his team's worst of the season. A much improved Baggies side came out after the interval with Jay Simpson slotting home after good work from James Morrison. However, a Craig Fagan header gave Hull the lead again before Robert Koren was brought down with Brunt smashing home the resulting penalty.

Albion could even have won the game with Roman Bednar missed a late chance with the Baggies having to settle for a point which keeps them still in 20th place.

"The first half was a non-event," the Baggies boss admitted.

"Credit to Hull.

"They ask questions of you by putting the ball forward.

"But there was very little constructive play and a lot of poor passing in the first half.

"I wasn't particularly pleased with anything. It was as poor as we've been this season.

"Whether the intensity of the game or the manner in which Hull attacked the game from the off caused that, I'm not sure.

"Their physicality was the most dominant factor in the game.

"We weren't really at the races but in the second half we got a bit of a grip of things.

"Our first equaliser gave us great belief and we pushed on.

"We had the better opportunities late on to win it.

"Compared to the first 45, the second half was probably exciting.

"We showed good character.

"If anyone was going to win it at the end it might have been us.

"A ball almost ran through to Robert Koren in the box in stoppage time but their boy did well to get in and cut it out for a corner.

"We then had a few corners on the bounce.

"The bottom line is it wasn't to be - and we'll take the point.

"We've found it hard to pick up away points in the Premier League and this is another one for us.

"I don't know who thinks it is the best result, whether it's Hull because it keeps them six points in front of us or whether it's us because it just keeps our points tally ticking along.

"Away from home, it is very, very hard to get results in the Premier League."
