Mowbray down but not out

Tony Mowbray still has every confidence in his team despite yesterday's disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Everton. Albion controlled the majority of the game without ever imposing their authority and were punished for two defensive mistakes. The visitors rarely troubled the home defence until an 11th minute spell in the second-half put the game out of the home side's reach despite Roman Bednar's last minute penalty.

"That's Premier League football," the Albion boss said.

"Did we deserve more?

"I thought we controlled the game for a vast amount of time and looked like the team that could go on and win it.

"Then there was an 11-minute spell when they scored two goals.

"Maybe that's the difference at this level.

"We'll find out but we've got to learn very quickly.

"We showed we can compete in this league.

"We should have no fears because we can be a decent side in this league.

"I know the football industry is results driven but in my job I've got to be happy with my team.

"I think we can control games and give the opposition problems."

Albion again started with a 4-5-1 formation and although brought the home side plenty of possession at times left Ishmael Miller looking extremely exposed against Everton's backline.

"Maybe it was about the final third for us today, whether it be the delivery into the box, the delivery of the finish or the cuteness of the run," Mowbray continued.

"Ishmael played up front today and he is a 21-year-old who has a lot to learn.

"But he is a talented player, a top striker and I'm sure he'll learn very quickly as he goes along.

"Can we score enough goals?

"I think so, even though it's at a different level.

"For instance, Ishmael was up against two centre-halves who were just as quick and strong as him.

"There are not many of them in the Championship.

"We have got to get used to the quality of the defending against us.

"But, generally, I think we'll be fine."
