Mowbray's Premiership plan

Albion boss Tony Mowbray is aiming to build a successful side to tackle the giants in the Premiership after watching his side claim the Championship at Loftus Road for the first time in 88 years. The former Hibs boss masterminded a number of eye-catching results against both Celtic and Rangers during his time north of the boarder and is now aiming to use that experience to assist the Baggies next term.

"We can't go to Old Trafford and think we can expand the pitch as we do against teams in this league because they've got better players," a proud Mowbray said.

"We'll have to come up with game-plans every week.

"But I can assure you we will be as positive as we can, try and score goals and win football matches, on the understanding that we are playing against better players.

"It's been a great learning curve for me coming from my previous job in Scotland.

"Going to places like Celtic and Rangers - giants of the Scottish game - with hugely different budgets and hugely different quality footballers is tough and yet we still won.

"That's what we'll be trying to do next year, to go to clubs with hugely different budgets and playing qualities and trying to win.

He added: "My aim is to put a team out that the supporters can be proud of and is competitive in the league.

"I've got no fears that we can do that.

"There will be days that we play against teams that will have too much quality for us.

"But there will be days also where teams underestimate our quality.

"In this league, no team gives you an easy day at the office.

"Every team competes and runs for 90 minutes.

"In the Premier League, I would suggest you might find days where you surprise teams and you can put them on the back foot.

"They may not have the same physical capacity as teams in the Championship."

Despite being in the managerial hot-seat for just four years Mowbray has already enjoyed successful spells both at Hibs and at The Hawthorns where he has led the Baggies to Wembley twice and now to the league crown.

""I've already had some wonderful occasions and days in management," he continued.

"The reason I left the wonderful football club that Hibernian is was to come here and take this club up to the Premier League.

"We have achieved that goal and it is a very proud moment - and not just for me.

"Mark Venus came with me and uprooted his family in a business where you could be out of work just like that.

"It's a huge commitment from people and I'm very proud we have achieved this.

"Hopefully, we're going to have a good shot at it at the next level.

"We were disappointed last year and there was a huge turnaround in players.

"Quality footballers left and the fact we managed to rebuild that team and find ourselves here today gives me great satisfaction and pleasure."
