Pulis fends off Foster criticism after Villa defeat

Tony Pulis refused to point the finger of blame at Ben Foster after the stoppers costly late error gifted near rivals Aston Villa three points in their battle against relegation.

Foster felled Matthew Lowton in the 93rd minute to give Villa a last gasp penalty which Christian Benteke slotted home to earn the hosts an unlikely 2-1 victory over the Baggies.

But Pulis, who suffered only his second defeat as Baggies boss, decided to focus on Foster’s record this season rather than his poor show at Villa Park.

"Let's not forget he’s saved us points and won us games. He's also kept a lot of clean sheets too, as has the defence,” said Pulis.

“He’s had an off night tonight but there’ll be nobody at this football club who will criticise Ben.

"He has been brilliant - he’s had a poor night tonight but everybody has those days.

"I don’t have to speak to him - he knows. There’s no problems. We will dust ourselves down and get going again on Thursday after a day off tomorrow.”
