Pulis: I'm to blame for City defeat

Tony Pulis has taken responsibility for Albion’s opening day defeat to Manchester City after admitting his tactics were wrong.

Pulis paired Rickie Lambert in attack with Saido Berahino as Pulis opted for a 4-4-2 formations against title-chasing City.

But two early goals from Yaya Toure put the game out of reach before Pulis rang changes at half time.

The Baggies boss went for a more familiar five-man midfield after the break and afterwards admitted his mistake.

He commented: "Sometimes as a manager you hold your hand up. I wanted to play Saido and Rickie - which goes against everything I usually do against bigger teams, where I fill the midfield and go strong. What we did in truth was allowed Silva too much room in first half and he was able to dominate the game.

"The thought of playing the two up front in the first home game was to try and be positive. So it's my responsibility, my fault. We played into their hands in the first half."
