The Baggies paid the price for a poor performance after Crystal Palace scored two second half goals to claim an unlikey victory.

In-form Albion were unbeaten in five but goals from Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend moved the Eagles away from the relegation zone.

Second half goals from Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend brought West Brom’s fine form on home soil to a crashing halt.

Townsend wrapped up the match six minutes from time after Zaha had put the visitors in front early in the second half.

The result ended Albion’s five-match unbeaten sequence.

In all honesty, West Brom never looked like making it five hom wins on the spin on a rare bad day at the office.

Three points today would have lifted Albion to 43 points, matching their tally for last season, with 11 games still to play.

This defeat - as frustrating as it was - shouldn't detract from the brilliant season the Baggies are having.

Palace, buoyed by their victory over Middlesbrough last week, had the determination that only a team fighting to stave off relegation can muster.

Improved by their January signings, they fought tooth and nail with the Baggies from first minute to last in a game lacking much goal mouth action.

Wingers Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend earned a victory that injected momentum into Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace survival mission.

Zaha and Townsend scored on 55 and 84 minutes respectively to secure back-to-back wins for the Eagles for only the second time this season.

The win moved them out of the relegation zone ahead of a two-week break from action, and meant a miserable reunion with his former employers for West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis.

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce urged his players to celebrate their best performance for him so far as his attempt to save their season showed signs of gathering momentum at just the right time.

The Eagles have not exactly soared in his 12 weeks in charge, but in achieving back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in six months they have given their survival prospects a significant boost.

Wlifried Zaha put them ahead 10 minutes into the second half yesterday, before a brilliant solo run by Andros Townsend made sure of the points with six minutes remaining, lifting Palace out of the bottom three with a three-point cushion over Middlesbrough, the team they beat at Selhurst Park last weekend.
