Roberto Di Matteo laid praise to his players after comfortably easing into the second round of the Carling Cup.  With a potential banana skin in front of the Sky TV cameras the Baggies quashed any thoughts of an upset when Graham Dorrans scored his first goal in Albion colours after just five minutes.

The advantage was doubled 20 minutes later when Michael Jones put through his own net with the visitors unlucky not to extend their lead over the League Two outfit before half-time.  After the break the home side rallied but were unable to find a way past Dean Kiely in the Albion goal.

"Tonight was one of those games that if you win you've done the job and if not you make the news," said Di Matteo.

"We have five international players away so I was forced to make changes.

"But the players were very professional and I was very pleased with the first half when we were excellent.

"We gave them half a chance after the break but we generally controlled it.

The former MK Dons boss made eight changes to his starting line-up with Joe Mattock and Reuben Reid making their full Albion debuts.  And while happy with the quality now at his disposal in the squad, Di Matteo is still keen to add a few more elements.

"I'm very happy with the squad, although I'd like to add something which we haven't got yet,” he continued.

"We're working on that but in general I'm pleased - that's in every department.

"We will try and bring in a few more but we also need to make sure a few will leave."
